Rebates
Medicare rebates under the Better Access initiative are designated for psychological treatment services, such as therapy sessions, and do not extend to psychological assessments, including cognitive, ADHD, or learning assessments.
Some private health insurance policies with extras cover may provide partial rebates for psychological assessment services. This varies significantly between insurers and policies, and not all assessments are covered. If you wish to claim through your private health fund, please check with your insurer directly to confirm whether psychological assessments are eligible, what services or item numbers are included, and how much rebate (if any) applies.
Referrals
A referral is not required to access psychological assessments, as these services are not eligible for Medicare rebates under a Mental Health Treatment Plan.
Families are welcome to contact me directly to request an assessment. If you have concerns about your child’s learning, attention, or development, you can reach out via phone or email to discuss which type of assessment may be appropriate.
